window1_.jpgCanyon Road was carved out by the Puebloans who settled the area, accessing the foothills for hunting and firewood. Later, Spanish Colonials used it for the same purposes. As the Spanish Capitol grew, the road filled with small farms and adobe family homes, remaining unpaved as late as the 1960s. Early artists set up studios along the road, the self-styled “nuts in mud huts.” Burros and carts gave way to showrooms, with the area becoming the country's most concentrated community of fine art galleries. Whether you love paintings and sculpture, Native American artifacts, or high craft of any type, it’s easy to spend days exploring over one hundred art galleries on this unique road.

food3_.jpgThe oldest capitol city in North America, Santa Fe prides itself on being "the city different." And we certainly are different from most cities of the same small size. Among many other things, we think of ourselves as an artist colony, boasting a vibrant art scene  and the third largest art market in the USA. Historic neighborhoods are filled with adobe homes, with strict city ordinances keeping them low to the ground, in earthen colors. You can find more masseurs, spas and hot tubs, galleries, shops and restaurants than you'll know what to do with. The mantra here is both "take it slow" and "think outside the box." The desert provides the space to reflect, rethink and regroup, illustrated by the many think tanks, institutes, and gatherings we host.

As you think about weekend getaways, know that a weekend in Santa Fe can reinvigorate and inspire even the most jaded New Yorker--especially with a ginger soy latte to (slowly) sip on.
